3 Positive Ways to Say Goodbye to 2019

Almost everyone I know had a very challenging 2019, from losing dear ones to job loss to health issues. Thank goodness for a new year and a fresh start. Rather than turn your back completely on 2019, launch yourself into 2020 on a positive note. Here are some ways to gently say farewell.

List Out the Good Times

For Christmas, I received the book The 52 Lists Project by Moorsea Seal, which is a weekly, guided journal for getting to know yourself by way of making lists. Even though I had planned to start the journal in January (week 1), I couldn't help turning to the last page (week 52) and completing that list. I labeled it 2019 and listed out my most memorable moments of the year. Despite it being a rough year, I realized that not every moment in 2019 was bad. There were many, many good and fun moments too. Why not start off 2020 with those memories at the forefront of your brain?

Review Your Photos

During Christmas, we forced our family to go through some of our trip pictures, not just once, but twice!!! It sorta just happened, by accident. We just wanted to show a few pictures of our recent trip to Mexico, and the next thing we knew, we were looking at pictures from Latvia and a few from Zimbabwe and Zambia. I actually got really excited and happy seeing pictures of delicious meals, fun adventures, and joyful gatherings with family and friends. Look through those great photos you took in 2019 and relive the fun moments.

Reach Out to Someone You Love

This year, a girlfriend reached out to me after years of us not talking. I literally cried when I heard her voice because, at that moment, I realized how much I missed her friendship. It was wonderful to see that our friendship hadn't dwindled and we were able to reconnect and jump right back into where we left off. I am so thankful that she thought to reach out to me. Reach out to someone you haven't talked to in a while, and let them know you are thinking of them. I know the end of the year is tough for many people and your text, email, or phone call, might be just the thing to lift their spirits.

Have a wonderful and peaceful New Year's Eve. See you in 2020!

  1. Tamara, I love this! Feel free to share other "lists". Maybe next month, "ways to put Jan doldrums behind you"? I'm now motivated to tackle my to-do list, but first, I'm going to look at some 2019 pictures ♥️
